What to See in Baia Domizia

Whilst Baia Domizia is a seaside resort, the surrounding area includes the centre of Sessa Aurunca and numerous sites of historical and natural interest, perfect for those wanting a break from the beach. Sessa Aurunca lies in the Caserta hinterland and is a territory with a long history dating back to Roman times, preserving numerous testimonies of its past. Walking through the historic centre, you’ll encounter the majestic Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, dating back to the 12th century and boasting a Romanesque façade and richly decorated interiors.

Another place of particular interest is the Ducal Castle, an imposing medieval structure dominating the city with impressive towers and frescoed courtyards. It appears to have been built by the Gastaldo of Sessa in the 10th century but was later rebuilt several times with important works carried out under Frederick II of Hohenstaufen. Nearby stands the Roman Theatre, built around the 1st century AD and considered the second largest Roman theatre in Campania after the one in Naples. Those who enjoy outdoor activities can visit the Roccamonfina-Foce Garigliano Regional Park, which boasts an extensive network of trails and itineraries surrounded by greenery.
