This place name, derived from a spring that existed in the area at that time, transformed first into Elea and then into Velia during the Roman age. Another route is the regional road 447/a which crosses much of the Cilento coast connecting the main towns in the area.
The railway station is located right at Marina di Ascea and is served by regional and Intercity trains on the Rome-Naples-Reggio Calabria line.
