Beyond its historical and architectural heritage, Naples boasts one of the finest gastronomic traditions in the Italian peninsula. Between a slice of pizza and a sfogliatella pastry, Naples is a city that knows how to win you over with its flavours.
You simply cannot leave Naples without tasting authentic Neapolitan pizza, a dish that the whole world envies us for. The “Traditional Art of Neapolitan Pizzaiolo” was even recognised in 2017 as part of UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Here, then, is a list of the best pizzerias in the city where you can taste genuine Neapolitan pizza.

The Gino e Totò Sorbillo pizzeria, one of Naples’ oldest pizzerias, has not only two locations in the city itself – one in the historic centre on Via dei Tribunali and another on the seafront – but also branches in other cities including Milan, Rome, Turin, New York, Miami and Tokyo.
This pizzeria stands out for its use of organic flour, the quality of its raw materials and the authenticity of its products, which are strictly sourced locally. It is considered a true institution not to be missed when visiting Naples. The pizzeria does not accept reservations, so long queues often form outside, but we assure you that eating a pizza here is well worth the wait.
Antica Pizzeria da Michele is one of the city’s historic pizzerias and was even featured in the film “Eat Pray Love” with Julia Roberts. Precisely because Antica Pizzeria da Michele is one of Naples’ oldest, its menu offers only two types of pizza: Margherita and Marinara, both made with a rigorously classic recipe and quality ingredients.
A pizzeria that has championed the tradition of authentic Neapolitan pizza as it was first created. The interior features large wooden tables shared with other diners in the spirit of conviviality. Service is quick and efficient, with honest prices.
Pizzeria 50 Kalò is among six Italian pizzerias featured in the Michelin Guide, thanks to the work of Ciro Salvo, who is part of the third generation of an ancient family of pizza makers. Here, ingredients bearing Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status are used, such as Provolone del Monaco, Ciauscolo, 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano and other products from small local producers.
The dough is made with selected flours and undergoes a long fermentation process, while the peeled tomatoes come from organic farming. To guarantee consistently high-quality dishes, seasonal ingredients are used, so the pizza menu changes with the season.
Reservations are not possible at this pizzeria either, but we still recommend heading there and joining the queue: the pizza is genuinely excellent. Since 2018, Pizzeria 50 Kalò has also had a branch in London.
In 1994, during the G7 summit in Naples, Ernesto Cacialli, already an accomplished pizza maker at the time, received a visit from US President Bill Clinton. From that moment on, Ernesto became the “President’s Pizza Maker“. A few years later, his daughter Maria Cacialli, together with her husband Felice Messina, decided to open a new pizzeria and, in honour of her father the pizza maker, named it “La Pizzeria del Presidente”.
The authentic and unpretentious atmosphere perfectly complements the character of this city. The pizza is among Naples’ finest and is made with genuine products sourced from Campania. Be sure to try the pizza a portafoglio (folded pizza), fried pizzas and desserts, including the wood-fired pizza with Nutella.
La Notizia is a pizzeria located in the Vomero district and one of Naples’ most celebrated pizzerias for the quality of its ingredients and products. Featured in both the Michelin Guide and Gambero Rosso, the lightness of this pizzeria’s dough makes it one of the finest not just in the city but throughout the province.
The restaurant is owned by Enzo Coccia, whose contribution helped certify Neapolitan pizza in 2009 as a “Traditional Speciality Guaranteed” recognised by the European Union.
In 2010, on the same street as La Notizia pizzeria, at number 94, Coccia opened another establishment called La Notizia 94, a gourmet pizzeria with only thirty covers. La Notizia pizzeria does not accept reservations and is closed on Mondays, while La Notizia 94 is closed on Sundays.
Pizzeria Di Matteo is situated in the heart of Via Tribunali, just steps away from Piazza San Gaetano. A long-established venue on the Naples pizza scene, it is renowned for the quality of its pizzas and its convivial atmosphere.
The pizzas served here are traditional Neapolitan style, made with excellent quality ingredients, and their portions are larger than average. In addition to excellent pizzas, the restaurant also serves the typical “cuoppo” (cone-shaped holder of fried food), fried pizzas and pasta fritters.
Pizzeria Starita was founded in 1901 by Alfonso Starita as a wine cellar, which by the late 1940s became a venue for tasting wines and local specialities. Over time, thanks to the work of successive generations of the family, Starita transformed into a pizzeria and fried food restaurant.
In the years that followed, under Antonio Starita’s leadership, the establishment increasingly specialised as a pizzeria, dedicated to serving authentic Neapolitan pizza. Alongside classic pizzas, you’ll now find seasonal pizzas and fried pizzas. Starita currently has locations in Naples, Milan, Turin and New York. Starita does not accept reservations but is open for both lunch and dinner.
Located on Riviera di Chiaia near the Caracciolo waterfront, the Pizzeria of Francesco and Salvatore Salvo received the “Master of Dough” award from Gambero Rosso, whilst TOP50 named it as the world’s third-best pizzeria.
The dough is left to ferment for 24 hours and the ingredients used are of excellent quality, such as PDO San Marzano peeled tomatoes and Agerola fior di latte cheese. The pizzeria is open Monday to Sunday for both lunch and dinner, and reservations are accepted here.
Located on Via Nazionale, a short distance from the station, stands the historic Pizzeria da Pellone, founded in 1960 by Vincenzo Pellone and his passion for pizza and fried food. The quality of the products and the skill in preparing pizzas has made this establishment’s pizza famous internationally.
The pizza here is among the city’s best, so much so that Franco, Antimo and Domenico Pellone were recognised by Naples’ Federico II University as “Masters of the Art of Pizzeria“. Both traditional and fried pizzas are excellent.
Flour, water, yeast and plenty of passion: these are the main ingredients of the pizzas served at Pizzeria Trattoria Totò Sapore. This establishment aims to offer its customers pizzas and dishes typical of Neapolitan cuisine at reasonable prices without compromising on the quality of the raw materials used.
Pizzas are cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven and the products selected come from local agricultural producers. In addition to pizzas, you’ll also find fish dishes from the Gulf of Naples, mixed fried seafood and other specialities from Neapolitan cuisine.
