For those wanting to combine a stay in Sorrento with exploring the beautiful beaches of Massa Lubrense, Ieranto Bay, Marina del Cantone, the Bagni della Regina Giovanna, it’s advisable to choose accommodation in the Sant’Agnello area or in the western part of the centre, closer to the Circumvesuviana for getting around the interior of the peninsula.

Sant’Agnello is the municipality immediately adjacent to Sorrento towards the east, separated by an administrative boundary but effectively continuous with Sorrento’s urban fabric: on foot from Sorrento’s historic centre you can reach Sant’Agnello in 10-15 minutes, the Circumvesuviana station serves both municipalities (Sant’Agnello stop is just minutes from Sorrento stop), and all ferries and transport services are equally accessible.
Accommodation prices in this area are typically 15-25% lower than Sorrento’s historic centre for equivalent category properties, making it the smart choice for those wanting to save without compromising location. Piano di Sorrento, the next municipality to the east, is about 5 km from Sorrento with its own Circumvesuviana station: the beaches of Marina di Cassano and Caterina Beach, with their Blue Flag 2025 status, are directly accessible on foot from the station.
Sant’Agnello and Piano di Sorrento’s accommodation offer is broader and more varied than their relative tourist obscurity might suggest: there are villas for rent with private gardens and pools, family apartments with equipped kitchens, family-run hotels with parking included, a valuable detail for those arriving by car then moving around by public transport.
The atmosphere is more residential and less touristy than central Sorrento: nearby restaurants are frequented by locals, menu prices are realistic, and evenings see less foot traffic.
